One member of the gang wrote a book entitled “The Black Book” as a guide for elevating African Americans in poor communities without using violence or committing crimes. The book, though seemingly good intentioned, was part of a bigger plan. Originally the idea for the cover was for the iconic “Black Power” fist emerging from other fists holding guns and drugs but I felt a more positive reaching hand expressed the writer’s message more effectively. It was great to be able to collaborate with Art Director Joe Macleod and writer Van Smith on this.
