These are samples from the 25 illustrations I recently completed for an advent calendar that tells the Christmas story from the perspective of a first-century shepherd. Having no religious background myself this was a very interesting project to work on. The calendar is a triptych that folds open to reveal an illustration of the hills, forest and city of Jerusalem. The calendar is different from others of its kind. Instead of treats for everyday leading up to Christmas, the viewer opens a door on the outer illustration to a new piece of the story and a new illustration. The viewer is able to follow the journey of the shepherds by opening the door for each specific day, moving around the outer landscape.
