The Virginia Public Access Project found John W. Tomac on Hire An Illustrator and asked him to help update the identity of their news section. The Virginia Public Access Project is a non-profit organization that tracks campaign contributions and political spending in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The most heavily trafficked part of their website is the news page, which links to political news from around the state. However, the icon on the homepage pointing people in it’s general direction was a bit lacking. The turn-of-the-century newsboy they had been using was a piece of modified stock art. They wanted something a little more unique and in the process wanted to pull the little guy into, at least, the middle of the twentieth century. John crafted this iconic image of a paperboy on a bicycle to help point their growing readership in the right direction.
