Last week I launched my new logo and branding, the main part being an all new look and build for my website.
I wanted to update my original branding as I didn’t feel it did me justice any more as both my graphic design and illustration skills have improved since I started up. Also, my old website was self built with my basic HTML skills, so wasn’t giving the up-to-date professional image I wanted to portray.
For my logo and branding I kept my original idea of having a cartoon version of myself, but now drawn much better and incorporated into the actual logo. I chose a font with a hand drawn feel to it for the logo, a simple modern font for other text, and a theme of wood textures, trees and nature.
I designed the look and layout of the site myself in Illustrator and Photoshop, then took that to web specialists Digital Delight to build it for me and to make the code magic happen. I’ve done illustration work for them before, so it was good to work with them with me as the client. I wanted to incorporate my illustration work into the site without overpowering the client work – these feature on the home-page in the form of illustrations for each category of work I do, a profile picture for my About page and characters in the site’s footer. The footer characters were great fun to work on – they include simple animated reactions when you point at them with your cursor.
On a functional level, the site includes an improved navigation bar and much more detailed project galleries with full descriptions and multi-image slideshows for each project.
