How many years have you been a freelance illustrator?
I’ve been working as a freelance Illustrator ever since I finished University fourteen years ago.
What can your work be applied to commercially?
My work has been used in quite a few areas so far, from children’s picture books and young adult’s fiction to advertising, magazines and web design. And soon I’ll have my work featuring on a t-shirt range for a new company.
Where would you most like to see your illustrations being used?
There’s nothing like the thrill of seeing your work on a shelf in a bookshop, so I’d love to see it on more fiction titles, and also I’ve started to have the urge to see certain characters of my work animated on TV.
What inspires you?
It could be everything and anything, from old books and magazines to trips abroad or afternoon napping. I’ve just got my hands on a few books dedicated to Japanese match box designs so I’ll be spending the next week or so pouring over them.
Apart from illustration, what other skills do you have?
Apparently my Sunday Roast is not bad.
What’s your favourite sandwich filling?
I was going to say the old classic cheese and ham toastie, but a recent trip to North London introduced me to the hot salted beef sandwich. It is a stiff competitor to the toastie in my eyes now.
