New portrait styling – Don Draper, David Beckham, Roger Federer

I receive a fair amount of character portrait work, both fiction and non fiction. I’ve been developing a new style of portrait illustration, separate from my more humorous character based style, to be more sophisticated (in my eyes).

The latest of this new style is my portrait of Jon Hamm as Don Draper from Mad Men. This style is about building the facial shape and details from a continuous outline with a mix of jagged and smooth edges to built shape, with smooth lines and fill shapes to show shadow and personality detail like hair, eyebrows, facial hair etc.

I have also produced a portrait of David Beckham and Roger Federer in this style. Over time I see this as being the signature styling for my portraits.

‘Marcus has been an absolute delight to work with. Nothing is ever too much bother and I have been blown away by how incredibly talented he is. Always takes the time to explain his reasoning for certain aspects of his design and has been very adaptable to a number of different briefs. He is our go to guy for all our design needs. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough.'
