May the fourth be with you. In celebration of yesterday’s Star Wars Day I am posting a new series of personal work combining two great wells of inspiration, the worlds of soccer and sci-fi. With the 5000 to one odds fairy-tale sports story of Leicester City competing for, then winning, England’s top soccer division it inspired me to start drawing mash-ups of favorite players or managers as heroes and villains from the galaxy far, far away. N’Golo Kante’s dynamic work-rate and tough tackling propelled Leicester City’s season with a warriors spirt and Jedi calm reminiscent of Mace Windu or Fin from the Force Awakens. Chewbacca has been combined with Belgian midfield-man mountain, Marouane Fellaini. Sunderland’s Big Sam Allardyce is known for his no-nonsense style of management, defensive tactics, obliteration of chewing gum and being a specialist in battling relegation. No offence, but there are many similarities with Jabba the Hutt. Lastly an homage to current Liverpool helm, former Borussia Dortmund coach with a half and half Darth Vader, Jurgen Klopp. Hand-drawn work finished with brush, pen and FW inks, then touched up with Photoshop.
