How many years have you been a freelance illustrator?
I actually sold my first works when I was still in high school, but have been a freelancer for over 15 years now. I worked for a few years at a magazine publisher, putting together layouts and doing some illustration work like character designs, icons and infographics.

What can your work be applied to commercially?
My illustrations are sold on t-shirts, postcards and bags. I also design posters, flyers, book covers and window fronts.

Where would you most like to see your illustrations being used?
I would love to do more editorial illustrations. Also, I would like to see more products with my designs on them, for example bags and clothing, tableware or toys.

What inspires you?
Roller skating and riding my bike. The city, nature, architecture, patterns. I am fascinated by designs from the ’30s and ’50s, I love visiting all kinds of exhibitions and going to the movies. I have a passion for art and design books and just found a graphic novel about the history of Amsterdam at a flea market; I can’t wait to start reading that.

Apart from illustration, what other skills do you have?
I am quite a talented roller skater

What’s your favourite sandwich filling?
In general I only eat bread at breakfast and I am addicted to Nutella.
