Sentry for Bird Whisperer Project
Posted 3 years ago and submitted by Mariya Prytula | Share link:

The Bird Whisperer Project is an initiative started by Melissa Gay and Amanda Makepeace. Each month members do a piece of art inspired by the same reference photo of a bird, and post to social media with #BirdWhisperer.

For the month of January, we were working from a reference photo generously provided by Christopher Martin Photography. Ravens are gorgeous birds, deeply embedded in the mythos of the Northern Hemisphere often portrayed as guardians, confidants and advisors. I really wanted to give this piece an air of mystery and a very classical feel which would invite the viewer to explore more of the story.

The giclee prints of this piece are my favourite yet and are available in my Etsy shop.

Have a great week,

Mariya has the exceptional ability to make fantasy more vivid and vibrant. I love the subtle texture and the outrageous detail and realism, as well as the simplicity of it. _________ The illustrations in Little Moss, Big Tree are outstanding. Light pastel watercolors fill the page and invite the reader to escape and all the trees, snail, animals, and leaves are illustrated accurately with soft hues of color. __________ You taught me what was possible and expected when working with other artists. You were so patient with me while working through an unfamiliar etiquette. It was a real kindness.
