Robot and Bird – The Toy Box: From Pop to Present

It was great to be commissioned to make a 7′ seated cardboard ‘Robot and Bird’ for a fab new exhibition. The Civic in Barnsley has a fantastic gallery space with a great team behind it – go see! I also designed a range of cut-out-and-keep ‘Toybots’ for visitors to make and add to the exhibition.
The Toy Box: From Pop to Present is a new exhibition, exclusive to The Gallery@ The Civic, exploring the use of toys in the world of contemporary art and design. By using British Pop Art of the 1950s and 1960s as a starting point and the movements it inspired, the exhibition will showcase paintings, prints, photography, fashion and sculpture from around the world. The Toy Box also takes a look at how toy companies have collaborated with artists to create collectable art toys, such as Urban Vinyl. The exhibition runs to September 23rd 2017. You can find out more on The Civic’s website.
