A Very Whimsical Wonder

This is my most recent, exciting project – creating an illustrative leaflet to advertise upcoming workshops run by Little Lapins’ ‘World of Whimsy’. I had great fun producing this design by taking inspiration from Little Lapins’ wonderful, whimsical product line. Workshops include making your own unicorn head bands and needle felting Christmas wreaths.

Olivia Wilson, owner of ‘Little Lapins’ Etsy store, loved some of my previous work that I had posted on my Instagram account, and particularly wanted someone local to produce her new leaflet designs to support a fellow small business owner. I was thrilled when she approached me to make her ideas come to life.

The leaflet needed to reflect Little Lapins’ very magical brand. I used similar pastel colours to those used in her products to make it look enchanted. It had to include mice, flowers, blue tits, a portrait of Olivia, and of course I couldn’t forget the all-important magical unicorn. To create all the characters, I first produced them by hand using my black ink brush pen, then transferring these ink drawings onto the computer, I created a digital cut-out style. Both the cut-out style and subtle fabric texture I overlaid on the illustration helped me to keep the handcrafted feel to the leaflets, reflecting the client’s products and workshops.
