This illustration appeared in print over the weekend, on the front of the Boston Globe’s Books section. It accompanies a review of Those Who Knew, a novel described as a political thriller for the #MeToo era. The story is set on an unnamed South American island a decade following the fall of a U.S.-backed dictatorship. A college professor suspects that a charismatic legislator is taking advantage of a young woman who’s been introducing him at rallies. When the young woman ends up dead, our protagonist knows who is to blame, recalling her own brushes with violence at the hands of the same politician, her boyfriend 10 years earlier, when she was a student and anti-government activist.
