Fantasy Commission

In my most recent private commission for a client, I was asked to create a 16×20 inch piece based on my 5×7 inch study (last image) created two years earlier. The client requested two mermaids instead of one to be more personable since she has two daughters. We went back and forth a few times on the thumbnails and decided to replace the crashing waves with a serene and magical reflection of the moon to give the piece an enchanting atmosphere.

This was the finished result. I used 21k moon gold on the moon, reflection and the stars.

If you have a project that requires fantasy, children’s, or nature illustration, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Mariya has the exceptional ability to make fantasy more vivid and vibrant. I love the subtle texture and the outrageous detail and realism, as well as the simplicity of it. _________ The illustrations in Little Moss, Big Tree are outstanding. Light pastel watercolors fill the page and invite the reader to escape and all the trees, snail, animals, and leaves are illustrated accurately with soft hues of color. __________ You taught me what was possible and expected when working with other artists. You were so patient with me while working through an unfamiliar etiquette. It was a real kindness.
