I’m pleased to be part of the HAI and Little Chimp Society’s Jules Verne Expo at the Framer’s Gallery, taking place in London this month. My illustration contrasts two of the different characters and places travelled in the novel. One side of the image is Phileas Fogg, in full Victorian top hat and moustache and with a mixture of a London street scene and freezing Alaskan tundra behind him. If you flip the image around, there is the Indian Princess (who Fogg rescues) in more exotic surroundings full of lush undergrowth, tigers, flamingos and monkeys. I also wanted to illustrate the wide variety of different forms of transport he employs to travel the globe so have included the sleigh they use in the American wilderness, ocean liner, elephant and of course the steam train (which is also a nifty device to divide up the design). Use the #JulesVerneExpo hashtag to find more pieces online or visit the Framers Gallery in person!
