For Communication Arts Magazine’s 60th anniversary year, and the 2019 Illustration Annual, I contributed an article on the present and future of the field. I also told the history of illustration 1959-2019 in the form of an illustrated board game, filled with hilarious-in-hindsight quotes from notable players of the “game” in those years. Also, shout-outs to Armando Veve, Barbara Nessim, Whitney Sherman, Nicolas Sparth Bouvier, Susan Doyle-Shedd, Anita Kunz, and Martin Salisbury for participating in interviews. Their thoughts are included in the article.
