Belles of the Silver Ball for Phoenix New Times

This piece for Phoenix New Times is a cover illustration for a story about the rising popularity of pinball among women in the city of Phoenix, which has female-owned pinball spots and female-orientated pinball fan groups! As with most editorial jobs it came with a super-short deadline, but the concept was so much fun!
The job was to design a pinball machine that was not male-focussed in terms of sexist and almost salacious artwork. I took inspiration from other pinball machine graphics, especially that of the old machines. It was fun to do something colourful, a nice change from my usually subdued colour palette.
I wanted to represent empowerment in terms of visual appeal, and that was a tough one. But overall I was happy with how it turned out, especially in the short time of just two days!

When I put out the call for to commission an artist to create some personal work for myself, Rupam was one of the first to answer the call. In a swift and timely manner we were able to work out the details of cost, style, and delivery. Rupam was nothing but professional and patient when working with me. Given the opportunity I will definitely give Rupam a call for another commission.
