London’s Lidos – Transport for London
Posted 4 years ago and submitted by Julia Allum | Share link:

I was recently asked to illustrate two posters for Transport for London. With my love of mid-century travel, rail and London underground posters, this was a dream commission for me. I feel honoured to be in the company of so many amazing artists who have gone before. The brief was very open but the illustrations needed to be colourful, eye catching and for the chosen lidos to be recognisable. Inspired by their golden age, using big bold shapes, I wanted to create a contemporary take on 1930s Art Deco poster art. I hope the resulting images of Uxbridge and Charlton evoke feelings of warm summer days, and leave the viewer wanting to take a refreshing dip!

These two posters will be up on the London Underground for the next couple of weeks and are now also available to purchase from the London Transport Museum shop.
