Mr. Alzheimer’s Goes to Toyland for Age UK Salford

Last year, a good friend of mine passed my details on to his mother Joy Watson, who is very active in raising awareness of Alzheimer’s, the infamous neurodegenerative disease, as well as being afflicted herself. Looking for someone to redesign a character, your’s truly was drafted in.

Since then it’s been a gloriously wild ride, with postcards, a children’s school book and an activity pack to work on. The opportunity to collaborate with Emma Smith (Age UK Salford) and Dr. Joy Watson has been a true highlight of my career, culminating in a book launch in which I felt like a minor celebrity. Kids from local schools were present and did a great job entertaining the crowd with shadow puppets.

Furthermore my illustrations for the book were passed on to Carbon Creative, a Salford (UK)-based design company who did a grand old job compiling the thing and making it look professional. So, a shout out to them.

Paul Loudon created approximately 90 artworks for me for a series of children’s reading books. The brief was to create a set of characters in a naturalistic style to complement a more graphic approach within the books. We were extremely happy with the work Paul carried out and how well he hit the marks of the brief. His approach was considered and sympathetic to the series style and age-appropriate. His work was well-timed and amends were carried out promptly. I would definitely work with Paul again.
