The Female Gaze: Solo show in LA

My first solo show was with Gallery1988 last August in Los Angeles, CA. “The Female Gaze” is a show celebrating the women of the sci-fi and fantasy world of TV and film. It features a total of 19 pieces in chalk pastel and graphite. Originals and prints are available for purchase.

It was difficult choosing what women I wanted to feature. I made a list of all the female characters I loved, and narrowed that list down by their roles in the film. Not just what they did in their respective roles, but what their characters represented. Whether that was a ruler, a villain, a soldier, a victim, a survivor, or a scientist. Each has a different story to tell, and I wanted to showcase their strength and vulnerability.

"Ashly Lovett prepared illustrations of six varied characters for the cover of my book of short stories. Her drawings were in each instance perfectly reflective of the individual nature of the character based on the text and discussions between us. In addition, each drawing was simultaneously realistic and elegant, which is a distinctive aspect of her work, and the colored drawing of the central character beautifully rendered in chalk pastel. She is highly professional and responsive and I give her and her work the highest recommendation."
