Recently I received two different portrait commissions. They were each a great experience.
The first was really delightful. I was given a couple of photos of the man I was asked to draw, but the commission request stated that they would like to see him in a Halloween bat costume. They sent a description of the man’s personality and expressed how playful he is. It was a lovely commission to work on.
The second was for a young couple. They sent me a photo on which to base the drawing, but allowed me to have some freedom in the design, rather than do a direct copy of the picture. I always appreciate when people don’t want an exact copy of the photo, but rather allow me to take elements of the pictures they send me and then create a story that I think best suits the commission.
