“Battle Green” will be out in the spring of 2021, to mark the 50th anniversary of a Vietnam Veterans Against the War march in 1971. The veterans were protesting the war in Vietnam by following in reverse, the route of Paul Revere’s ride in 1775, alerting the colonists to the march of the British army.
The map pictured is one of six I drew by hand to give the flavor of both 1775 and 1971 styles in mapping. It was a complex project to illustrate the progress of the group from the Concord memorials marking the first conflict of the Revolution, through Lexington, and on to their destination at Boston Common. Here’s what the author had to say: “I can’t thank you enough. These maps say so much and thereby make a very significant contribution to my book. I’m beyond thrilled.”
