Misty the Cat and Joe Coffee – Using Adobe Fresco to draw and colour character sketches

I am currently working on some characters for a children’s book and in doing so came up with some interesting characters and styles. The characters are originally hand drawn in my sketchbook and inked. For the digital colour version I redrew the line art in vectors and coloured the work digitally on my iPad using Adobe Fresco. This then gives me flexibility in the illustration to update the line art and play with the colours.

I like that the line art is vector because then it can be scaled-up infinitely. I used the watercolour brush in Fresco which blends the colours like real watercolour and gives the colours a more tactile feel like real paint. It has a vintage feel I like also, and a freshness in the colours and a crispness in the line.
