So much for social distancing!

I recently finished this drawing amidst all the fuss about social distancing. Perhaps I’m missing the hustle and bustle of big cities and being caught in crowds! I started this one with no particular agenda other than to doodle characters in a crowd all over the page using no planning in pencil, just straight in with the pen. I then added some shading in Procreate just to give it some more depth. I wanted to focus on the characters rather than the setting or any architecture.

As a drawing, it’s more of a doodle than a carefully composed illustration. I enjoy watching the scene slowly unfold before my eyes without any rehearsal. Doodling is a very interesting genre of illustration and art, and one that I would love to explore more with clients since it has so much potential. These drawings can adhere to a loose brief or a concept, although due to the improvisational element of the drawing there can’t be too much planning otherwise the spontaneity of the drawing is lost. Let the pen wander and watch the story unfold!
