Politico Europe asks whether patriotism is indeed the last refuge of scoundrels or a noble virtue worth cultivating. In a world where we can’t escape the loud, jingoistic rhetoric of leaders like Donald Trump and Boris Johnson it might seem that the former is true. However, the editor finds that a different kind of love of country – one that’s based on more than wrapping oneself in the flag – is absolutely necessary for a nation to realize it’s promise for all people.
