Stone to Dust – book concept illustration
Posted 3 months ago and submitted by Evelyne Park | Share link:

As I’m slowly integrating gouache colors with my usual watercolor painting style, I get to work on motifs that rely on more saturated colors and shining highlights.

This piece is part of a series of concept illustrations for a fantasy world. While the actual story is to be told as an illustrated novel/graphic novel, the exploration stage invites some more whimsical, detailed illustrations. Key elements are stone structures and “crystallized magic” – which are a great excuse to add some shiny gemstones to everything.

I added some work-in-progress pictures as well as a typography experiment – to test if the color palette and level of contrast read well with text – for fun.
