I was excited to be asked to create two illustrations for Wild Times, the RSPB members’ kid’s magazine. The designs were to accompany a short story about a little girl who was too shy to join the school choir, so her Dad took her out one morning to see and hear the dawn chorus and show her how all the birds join in and have a part to play. It’s a really adorable story and I wanted to get this across using some lovely textures and show the adventure aspect and time of day in some really bright colours. I created my illustrations as a mixture of paper collage, drawing details in Photoshop and scanning in pieces of textured fabric to create a more tactile effect. The illustrations can also be seen on the cover of the magazine.
