Manhattan, New York street scene commission

The brief on the outset was a daunting one: use a New York street scene (Manhattan’s China Town District) while incorporating around 50 unique elements that are special to the clients, specifically for her husband’s birthday. It was a battle to fit in all 50, but these pieces of artwork are what I love to do. This really is a perfect example of a private commission. It’s completely unique, special and individual to the client (yes, that is a T-Rex on the left-hand side with the client’s husband’s head in the mouth). It’s wacky, odd and surreal, but has a lot of meaning to the clients. From the logo of their favourite beer, to the client mounting a black bear (yes, you read that right), it’s a ‘Where’s Wally’ style painting with a lot to look for.

It’s been a challenge, but an absolute joy to paint this, and I’m glad it’ll have pride of place in the client’s home.
