I have entered a piece of work for the Explorers against Extinction exhibition ‘Sketch for Survival’. It is to help highlight the plight of animal species on the IUCN Red list, a list of species marked from vulnerable to extinct in the wild. I have chosen the Arabian Oryx as reading through the list I found this to be a story of hope, that with huge efforts a species can come back from the brink. The Arabian Oryx has over the past 40 years gone from Extinct in the Wild to Vulnerable and I wanted to highlight that with the efforts of conservation, awareness and breeding programs, species can be saved from extinction.
