Last year I was very lucky to be approached by Domestika, an online course provider, with the aim of creating a new Photoshop learning course. Over the next few months, I worked in partnership with the company to develop ‘Introduction to Photoshop for Illustrators’.
The course takes students on a journey through the software, using a step-by-step approach to creating artwork – we go from the basics of learning the interface and essential tools to discovering how to create brushes, adjust colours in traditional artwork, add texture and light, and even how to create simple animations. Throughout the course I demonstrate my own process, including the creation of three full illustrations from start to finish, as well as discussing style and influences.
This project was unlike anything I have ever done before and was, ironically, a phenomenal learning experience for me. After many hours of planning and recording, the course was released in April and I was astounded to have more than 1000 students within the first two weeks!
The images you can see here are some of the pieces I created as part of the course. You can also see the trailer in the video above and find out more information about the course here.
