My work for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s Great Bilberry Bumblebee Hunt was created back in early 2020 and was intended to be used in a series of outdoor family events across the Peak District in summer 2020. It consisted of a collector’s album with full colour cover, black and white spot illustrations, an illustrated map of the the hunt locations and ten collector’s cards, one of which would be collected at each event, all containing clues to the location of a special bilberry bumblebee chase card. Edited black and white versions of the cards were printed inside the album so kids knew what cards to search for without giving the game away.
It was great fun to work on but, unfortunately, like a lot of things in 2020, the events had to be postponed due to the pandemic, so I haven’t been able to share it until now. A much shorter, day-long event eventually took place in Derby in June 2021, with the items given to attendees as activity packs instead of collector’s albums. It’s a shame the hunt couldn’t take place as intended, but apparently the activity packs were a hit, and it’s great to know that it all got to be used and seen!
