BBC History Magazine – Unwell Women illustration

I recently illustrated a spread for BBC History Magazine, to go alongside author Elinor Cleghorn‘s feature ‘The Gender Pain Gap’ – out on Thursday the 8th of July!

For this piece, I was inspired to visualise the pain of Endometriosis – with brambles taking the shape of a uterus, wrapping themselves up the nervous system. The surgeons hands are imposing, overly focused on fertility, (plucking at an ovary/blackberry) and cutting away superficial branches without getting to the root of the problem.
