Hell Unearthed – Modern adaptation of Dante’s Inferno

I was recently commissioned to illustrate a book called Hell Unearthed by Hilary McElwaine. This adaptation of Dante’s Inferno was written for the 700th Anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death.

Hilary asked me to create the illustrations in black and white to give a gritty feel. Primarily based on the Dante’s original visions but with Hilary’s modern twist.

Hell Unearthed is on pre-sale and is due for release 1st September 2021

Rob was the first person I approached on my shortlist of illustrators for Hell Unearthed because his interests and experience were very much aligned with history and mythology which were perfect for Dante’s underworld. Rob’s ink drawings have really brought Hell Unearthed to life and his skill with creating light and shadow have been exceptional. He has shone a spotlight on the murky world of this fictional Hell. He has been incredibly professional and responsive throughout the project and I couldn’t have asked for more. Truly delighted.
