In the final week of a (successful) crowdfunding campaign for Texas Tracts, a series of mini-comics about my Catholic education in the Lone Star State, I decided to draw portraits of Texans I admire. I wanted to show the Texas beyond the stereotypes and chose a few subjects that I think do this quite well.
The post-punk album cover suits Beto O’Rourke, Patron Saint of Texas Future. I portrayed Beyoncé as the 9-year-old who rose to national attention on a talent show and lost. She’s the embodiment of Texas Grit. For more info on Ann Richards, former governor of Texas, read my blog post. She’s a firecracker, and a role model for women everywhere.
