Many illustrators struggle with commissioned work, family, social lives and rest. To even think of doing personal projects felt like you need a miracle where the illustrations just appear. For me, it has been a busy year. I had some amazing clients like World Vision and Kristen Kish – all will be revealed soon. But I felt I needed to recalibrate.
Working to the client’s timeline meant not much experimenting, so I needed an outlet for innovation to break new ground within myself. This year, I choose to do a personal project using prompts provided by Folktale week, 2021. I choose a folktale that involved a girl with white hair. From Indonesian to European folktales, there have been a lot of tales. I find them fascinating and unusual.
