Portrait commission for a private client

While my main job is as an illustrator of all things fantasy and surreal, I love to paint real people too… so I’m always happy when I get to work on portrait commissions!

Having a specific model or photo to refer to for the anatomy and value structure of a piece means I don’t have to concern myself with these elements too much, which allows for more freedom with colours, edges and brushstrokes. It sometimes feels like magic: as long as I nail the lights and darks, a red scarf can actually have saturated blues in it if you look closely, a beige shirt can fade into the blue background… and I absolutely love it!
