Real Estate Love Letters for The New York Times

This illustration was commissioned by The New York Times for the cover of their Real Estate section for Saturday December 19, 2021. The article is about a common practice in real estate called “love letters” where a buyer writes a letter to the seller to be included with the initial offer. The love letter attempts to persuade the seller to sell the house through emotional appeals and promises to care for or upgrade the property. The practice is coming under scrutiny in many states because it can be subtly (or overtly) discriminatory.
