Happy birthday to Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE, born September 15, 1890. Christie was an English author who wrote 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections. She was the queen of murder mystery novels and the creator of the fictional characters Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. She also wrote the world’s longest-running play, The Mousetrap, which has been performed in London’s West End since 1952 – and it is still playing!

Guinness lists Christie as the best-selling fiction writer of all time, with her novels having sold more than two billion copies. Christie died peacefully on 12 January 1976 at age 85 from natural causes at her home at Winterbrook House.
