Gag Comic Strip Experiment

A couple of years ago, a friend told me that he had gotten work through Instagram. I wasn’t on Instagram, but was thinking of compiling a collection of single panel cartoons. So I committed myself to one cartoon a week. Within five weeks I had 1,800 followers which was good for the ego, but it wasn’t bringing in any customers. I kept at it. This project allowed me to build up a large collection of images, which I used in self-promotion and it improved my skills by doing it regularly. It was tough at first but has been getting progressively easier. The best thing I learned was to be “always on” when it comes to ideas, and jotting down anything that strikes my fancy. I’ve submitted the collection to several magazines and a site called Cartoonstock, and they accepted my work.
