The Son of Halloween

I recently had the honour of contributing to Printed in Blood’s latest art book, John Carpenter’s: Halloween. My piece is a direct homage to René Magritte’s ‘Son of Man’. The connection to this homage and John Carpenter’s movie is the seen and unseen; existing in the unseen world (paranormal realm) makes us the viewer voyeurs into Myers world, thus creating a conflict of morals. When Myers enters our world everything visible is hidden in some shape or form and because of this we are enthralled by what we cannot see. By homaging the surrealist artist Rene Magritte’s ‘The Son of Man’ I was able to reinforce the themes of the paranormal and voyeurism, and by replacing the apple with the pumpkin we can make direct connections to rebirth and fertility giving Michael Myers the power to survive and endure throughout the ages.
