We’re very happy to welcome artist Gavin Gray Valentine to Hire an Illustrator. He’s been kind enough to allow us to re-publish, edit and update the series of “how-to” blog posts he wrote in 2019 for the now defunct 1FW website. These are the first four of the series:
- Crafting an Experience – Reading time: 8 minutes
- The Power of Perceived Value – 5 minutes, 30 seconds
- Defining Your Audience – 4 minutes, 38 seconds
- How to Make Original Work That Sells – 5 minutes, 48 seconds
The advice offered in these posts is primarily for those looking to participate in conventions or take their in-person offerings to the next level. But we found as we worked our way through Gavin’s articles that most of the information can be applied across the board and incorporated into areas like an illustrator’s online presence, especially with regard to presenting yourself and your work on your own website. So, if you’re a freelancer, but conventions just aren’t your thing, these posts are still worth reading as the knowledge you’ll gain from a business point of view is invaluable.
A solid foundation will give you a solid portfolio. Read, learn, enjoy.
