About Anne-Marie Perks.

Welcome to my portfolio! As a child I loved to draw, paint and make things out of clay, and write stories and perform them in my own musical extravaganzas. I still draw and write stories, and it’s been a while since I put on a musical extravaganza. I do explore different mediums to tell those stories in. Capturing the emotional heart of mythic stories and fairy tales from different cultures with the evocative quality of line, shape and colour is what motivates me. These are also the stories that children of all ages never tire from. The core of my process is a strong drawing and design background and a mixed media approach. As a visual storyteller, I look for the universal connection between tales honed through generations and evolving ways of telling them. I earned a BA Honours degree in Illustration and a MA in Children’s Illustration from North Wales School of Art and Design (Glyndwr University). I've also studied animation at Central St Martin's School of Art and continue to develop my craft through mentorship programmes with SmartArt School, Oatley Academy and Schoolism. As an art educator, I teach visual storytelling, life drawing and concept art on the Animation and Independent Game courses at Buckinghamshire New University. Professional organisations I belong to are: Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Association of Illustrators (AOI) Society of Authors (SOA)
