About Ethan Brown.
Experienced Artist, Illustrator, and Designer with proficient traditional & digital art methods, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Professionally, I introduce myself as a Freelance Illustrator. Almost always that statement is followed by what most people would define as a conversational response, but something that I interpret as a difficult question that merits a thoughtful answer: "What do you do with that?"
The short answer is that I make art for clients, that I provide a professional service to fill a specific niche in the visual industry, and that I believe I am good at my job.
However, I believe Art, Design, Illustration, mark making, etc. is simultaneously more complex, and more rewarding, than a simple business transaction. I resonate more with Dean Cornwell's assessment of an illustrator when he said that "the true measure of an illustrator is his ability take a subject about which he may have neither interest nor information, tackle it with everything he’s got, and make the finished picture look like the consummation of his life’s ambition.”
In that vein, I have a voracious appetite for learning, observing, and experiencing the world around me, and I believe that the world (fictional or the real world) is a beautiful place, and I do have a keen interest with a variety of subjects, and if it is a foreign concept, I will make it my ambition to create finished images that reflect care to the subject, and infuse it with my personal voice in the hopes that I can show people what I see and how I interpret the world.
